Day 1 + 2 / Santiago: arrival & day of Rest

Overnight flight in Business-Class the day before from Europe

After arrival in Chiles capitol Santiago de Chile, transfer to listed, comfortable villa hotel in the famous arts and dining district of Bellavista. Afterwards, the Park Parque Metropolitano presents you a terrific view above this metropolis of 7 million inhabitants at the feet of the giant Madonna´s statue there

On day 2 immerse yourselfe in the center of the city: together we join a city tour and visit Santa Lucia – the place of foundation of Santiago. Have a feast at the antique hall of traditional fish market

Day 3 / Osorno


Start with a stylish brunch in the hotel´s garden

A short domestic flight takes you to the starting point of your journey: Osorno. That provincial town ist situated in the so called “Switzerland of Patagonia“. At the town´s Airport at around 03:00 p.m. your travelling vehicle VIATORIA Roadliner is waiting for you to drive you to best hotel in town

Now you have the opportunities of visiting the city, taking a walk at the river Rio Rahue or relaxing and taking your time of the upcomming days

In the evening you enjoy your Chilean meal especially: A huge buffet offers best meat, good wine and gastronomic specialities from this region characterized by high quailty

Day 4 + 5 / Lago Llanquihue, Osorno volcano & day of rest

The first stage starts around 10:00 a.m. During short 110 km we drive around Lago Llanquihue - the impressive second largest lake in Chile - to the foot of Osorno volcano . At 2,652 Metern it is also known as “ little Fuji“ and is one of the popular destinations and photographic panoramas in Chile

After visiting the volcano, we head to thunderous river Rio Petrohué and follow its rapids, called Salto Petrohué, until Lago Todos Los Santos (All Saints Lake). These spectacular rapids are one of the main event of Vicente Perez Rosales National Park

Close to the lake we reach a lodge with view to Osorno volcano in the evening. Here you can also enjoy the rest of day 5 of your journey

Day 6 / Puerto Varas, Puerto Montt, Hornopiren


Forwards along the coast of Lake Lago Llanquihue our route leads us through the busy seaports Puerto Varas and Puerto Montt. We take a break here for a snack and having a first look at Golfo de Ancud – an extensive bay of pacific ocean. Puerto Montt is also called as “Gateway to Patagonia“, because up from here all southern ways are leading towards and through Patagonia

In the afternoon, we drive the first kilometers on famous Carretera Austral. For the first time we now take a ferry to reach our today´ss destination: a small harbourage in Hornopirén

If you like, go for a walk at the idyllic habour of the village or taste the Chilean wine in the dining room of our warm-hearted and familiar guided Hosteria

Day 7 / Golfo de Ancud, Caleta Gonzalo


Take-off at Hornopiréns habour at 09:00 a.m. for a five hours ride by ferry through the magnificent fjords of Golfo de Ancud to where the street continues at Caleta Gonzalo

We enjoy our picnic lunch during our leisurely ferry ride

The look from the ferry to the surrounding montains and forrests adumbrates the area of local Pumalín Park: Around 290.000 Hectars cover the former biggest private park of Chile. Now it is a state-owned procected area for conservation of the temperate rain forest

After the ferry has landed in Caleta Gonzalo - our today´s destination - you may explore some parts of Pumalín Park by foot

Day 8 + 9 / Chaiten , Lago Yelcho, Puyuhuapi


Continue riding on the famous Carretera Austral / Ruta 7, which is one of a kind in the world. This highway takes us through the wilderness of Patagonia - one of the most fantastic and spectacular nature experiences in all of South America

We pass Chaitén Volcano and reach our todays lodge after a 100 km day trip. This lodge is located at 116 km2 big lake Lago Yelcho

On day 8 going along southern, an extraordinary wellness hotel awaits you, close to the village Puyuhuapi. That Hotel is hidden in a widely ramified fjord and only accessible by boat. It´s inbetween three national parks. Look forward to recreative hours in the midst of beautiful nature!

At the pretty hotel´s restaurant you have a dreamy view on the fjord. Here await you delicious Menus and best wines

Day 10 / Queulat National Park & day of rest


According to your wishes you arrange your day:

– Visiting the nearby Queulat National Park. Various hiking trails and a boat tour invite us to explore the unspoilt wilderness. The nature rewards you with very special views on Ventisquero Colgante – “the hanging glacier“ – that is slowly breaking away

– The warm termas at the hotel invite you to relax in the open. The hotel´s spa spoils you with a recreative massage and you can also choose the indoor pool, if you like

– Explore surroundings by a walk through tropical forest or by a guided kayak tour

We meet in the hotel´s restaurant in the evening for an atmospheric dinner

Day 11 / Region de Aisén, Coyhaique

After breakfast we leave for a 200 km day distance

This part of Carretera Austral leads us at first through more or less tight rain forest and than increasing along at cultivated fields and lush pastures

Our destination, the small town Coyhaique, lies in a green valley, at the foot of imposing Cerro Mackay mountain, surrounded by forest and meadows. Fast you succumb to the town´s charm: the colourfull nature, the warm-hearted inhabitants and the recurring clues of the first settlers “Mapuche“ give Coyhaique a very special atmosphere

Our today´s harbourage is a pretty Boutique-Hotel

In one of the many little city restaurants we have dinner around 09:00 p.m.

Day 12 / day of rest in Coyhaique

Enjoy a relaxing day in Coyhaique

The translation of the town´s name means: “Place, where you settle down“

– Take a walk through the beautiful nature

– Or visit the center of Coyhaique. You can find the typical natural materials from that region like wools, woods, leather and stone in handcraftet accessoires and souvenirs at the artisan market at Plaza de Armas

– Maybe it´s possible to look over the shoulder of a fly fisherman at one of the surrounding rivers …

In the evening awaits you a delicious meal with one of the best Pisco Sour in a really cosy restaurant with awards

Day 13 / Marble Caves & Lago Negro  

Lago Negro

Today´s 250 km ride takes us from 09:30 a.m. on further along the Carretera Austral in a southward direction

This was one of the most difficult sections for the engineers to build, meandering as it does with almost innumerable twists and turns through swamps and rain forest up to the village Puerto Rio Tranquilo, located nearby the huge lake Lago General Carrera

In the afternoon we take an impressive boat tour to the natural „cathedrals“ Capillas de Marmol. They are known for their amazing play of colour in the marble in the midst of giant boulders which have fallen from the cliff

A short distance along the coast of Lago General Carrera takes us to the southern tip of the lake. Here we stay the night: in a cosy lodge close to the small lake Lago Negro

Day 14 / 1st border crossing to Argentina


The section today includes approx 185 km and the border crossing to Argentina. Departure at around 10:00 p.m.

The highway, with its stunning panoramic landscapes and majestic mountains in the distance, leads us along Lago General Carrera to the small border town Chile Chico

After crossing the border at Paso Rio Jeinemeni, it´s time for rummage through handicraft shops, a stroll and drinking coffee in Los Antiguos The further way leads us along the shore of Lago Buenos Aires lake up to our destination: the tranquil town Perito Moreno. We arrive here around 07:00 p.m.

For dinner awaits you traditionell Argentinean cuisine

Day 15 / Cave of the Hands and mystical pampas


To pass the extensive steppe, hilly landscapes and imposing pampa, we leave Perito Moreno at 08:30 a.m.

At noon we reach Cueva de las Manos – “Cave of the Hands“ – an UNESCO World Heritage Site in the canyon on the banks of Rio Pinturas river. This cave contains paintings going back thousands of years to the earliest inhabitants of this region

After leaving 330 km today´s distance behind, the owners of a century-old estancia welcome you. At this idyllic place you can unwind and enjoy the silence of nature

Around 08:30 p.m. awaits you a special dinner with homemade delicacies – maybe in front of the open fire

Day 16 / day of rest on estancia


Our accommodation is an authentic and rustic Argentinean estancia with the warm hospitality of the south. The served foods here are regional and traditionell

After brunch you may explore the surroundings:

- A variety of different birds and other animals can be watched here very well

- During a guided horse ride you can discover flora and fauna of the pampa in a special way

- A tour through the farmstead allows insights in the practiced tradition of sheep breeding and puma hunting

In the evening the good cuisine is pampering you again. We reccomend to taste lamb as well as rabbit!

Day 17 + 18 / El Chaltén, day of Rest at Mount Fitz Roy


After breakfast we continue at 11:00 a.m. riding through the vast expanses of the pampa

Leaving the first 150 km of this day behind us, we pass Lago Viedma – a more than 1,000 km2 big turquoise lake, which is fed by glacier waters from Los Glaciares National Park

From here on we ride another 90 km to the village El Chaltén at the foot of famous Monte Fitz Roy. This massiv of granite is one of the most recognizable landmarks of Patagonia. In the shadow of that 3,400 m high mountain, originally called the “Smoking Mountain“, we settle down for next two nights in our hotel in El Chaltén.

It´s up to you, if you want to explore the nature around Monte Fitz Roy on a hike or watch the hustle and bustle in El Chaltén

Day 19 / Steppe and El Calafate

As fresh as paint we go on driving through the steppe landscape of the province of Santa Cruz. That region is one of the most sparsely populated regions of Argentina, almost uninhabited in many parts. Only guanaco and sheep flock will cross our route again and again

Around 05:00 p.m. we arrive at our destination El Calafate. This pretty little town has become the tourist centre for Los Glaciares National Park. It´s located directly at lake Lago Argentino. The surface of that glacial lake measures 1,500 km2. So that impressive lake is the biggest one in Argentina

Day 20 + 21 / Perito Moreno Glacier, days of rest and excursion

Perito Moreno

The two day´s stay in El Calafate offers several opportunities:

Day excursion to one of the most impressive sights in Patagonia: the Perito Moreno Glacier. Famous for its ice cliff that reaches up to 100 m and running kilometers into Lago Argentino (which it frequently causes to dam up), this glacier puts you under its spell. Surrounded by spectacular views and fascinating soundscapes as blocks of ice weighing tonnes break away, this nearly 254 km2 ice giant inspires people from around the world

Day 22 / Border crossing back to Chile


At 09:00 a.m. departure from El Calafate

Our today´s ride of 280 km takes us through the Argentinean province of Santa Cruz with its typical steppe landscape for the last time. We cross the border at Paso Rio Don Guillermo

Leaving that pass behind us, we enter Chile again and come bit by bit closer to another highlight of Patagonia: the unique and famous Torres del Paine National Park with its majestic rock towers

“Torres del Paine“ means in the language of the Tehuelche People “Towers of blue sky“

Look forward to your hotel with an especially panoramic view. It´s located nearby the river Rio Serrano

Dine in the hotel at the big buffet where no wish remains open

Day 23 + 24/ Torres del Paine, days of rest



If you like, join hikes through the famous Torres del Paine National Park during these two days. Beside the „Towers of the blue sky“ are waiting for you: wonderful hiking trails, beautiful mountain massifs, huge glaciers and colourful gleaming lakes

Even an impressing boat tour to the Glacier Grey ist worthwhile to experience as well as to explore the surrounding nature by a horse ride. The hotel offers guided rides daily

Of course you can also choose relaxing in the cosy hotel. The view over the landscape is awesome.

In the hotel´s restaurant we meet each evening around 08:00 p.m. for an atmospheric dinner

Day 25 / Puerto Natales and Morro Chico


Around 10:30 a.m., we leave Torres del Paine National Park behind us and head south to the Magallanes y de la Antártica Chilena Region

We visit Cueva del Milodón and then we take the street Ruta 9

A little bit later we arrive at the quaint town Puerto Natales with its extensive promenade

After lunch in Puerto Natales the onward journey takes us through a remote landscape crisscrossed with swamps and low woodlands as we steadily make progress to the famous Strait of Magellan

We then ride past the exceptional Morro Chico Volcano and reach after 200 km this day at all a historical villa in family ownership. We dine and spend the night on this picturesque estate

Day 26 / Strait of Magellan and 2nd border crossing to Argentina


Today’s 330 km long route brings us to the end of the Patagonian mainland. At Punta Delgada, we encounter one of the narrowest points in the Strait of Magellan. From there, the ferry takes us in just 20 minutes to the legendary island Tierra del Fuego (Spanish for “Land of Fire”)

We cross back over to Argentina at Paso San Sebastián

Passing extensive pastures and rocky, barren landscapes, we then follow the Atlantic coast to the largest city on Tierra del Fuego: Rio Grande

We check in at our hotel in Rio Grande and go out for dinner in a cosy restaurant. Enjoy the variety of fish specialities ...

Day 27 / Tierra del Fuego


At 09:00 a.m. departure to the southernmost destination on your journey, the southernmost city of the American continent, and the end of the Pan-American highway, the so called “End Of The World”: Ushuaia

We will pass through diverse panorama on today’s 200 km ride, first pass Lago Fagnano, then crossing the last, massive mountain ranges of Tierra del Fuego before we reach the Beagle Channel and the end of Ruta 3, the last bit of highway in all of America

Later we check-in into our hotel in Ushuaia. From this point the view upon the city is very special

We meet around 08:30 p.m. for dinner and celebrating in the city center … with Open End

Day 28 + 29/ Days of rest and excursion in Ushuaia


So close to Antarctica climate is rough in Ushuaia

Your stay in that lively city is individual

– Boat tour to isle Isla Navarino, to the colony of pinguins on isle Isla de Los Pajaros (“Isle of Birds“ ) or to famous lighthouse also located in Beagle Canal

– Hiking through Tierra del Fuego National Park

– Sightseeing of the former pirate´s prison

– Visiting museum of the “ Yamana People“

– Taking a ride with the old prisoner´s train or the double decker

– Sightseeing or Shopping in the city center of Ushuaia

– and so much more

Around 07:00 p.m. we meet up for dinner together in a nice city restaurant

Day 30 / Through the heart of Tierra del Fuego and back to Chile again


With a stunning view again you have breakfast

Feeling refreshed, at 10:00 a.m. we start our second to last ride. First, it takes us along the only road that heads back to Rio Grande. Shortly before the town, we turn in a westward direction to cross the border at Paso Rio Bellavista - back to Chile again

After crossing the border, we continue across the pasture, steppe and marsh of the mysterious heart of Tierra del Fuego

In the afternoon we reach a remote, private fishing lodge situated on the river Rio Grande

Here we have time to relax, enjoy the wide views and fresh homemade delicacies, and we also reminisce about our memories around the fireplace, if you like

Day 31 / 2nd crossing of the Strait of Magellan


Before take off at 09:30 a.m., enjoy a homemade breakfast

First, the road leads us through the silence of Tierra del Fuego, then along the beautiful bay of Bahía Inútil towards Cameron

On the picturesque coast sporadically appear authentic fishing huts, little boats and estancias

In the small seaport Porvenir we have dinner for the last time on Tierra del Fuego. Around 07:00 p.m. a ferry takes us within 2,5 hours across the Strait of Magellan again. Maybe we are lucky to be accompanied by some dolphins or whales

Arrived in Punta Arenas, the final destination of your journey, we check-in for two nights into the historic hotel. It´s situated centrally, close to „Plaza de Armas“

Day 32 / Day of rest in Punta Arenas


This day you can personalize as you like. Here are some suggestions:

– Visiting the craft market of regional handicraft at “Plaza de Armas“

– Shightseeing at the museum of ships “ Museo Nao Victoria“

– Strolling or bicycling at the beautiful promenade

– Boat tour and wildlife obervation´s on surrounding islands

In the evening we meet up at Shakleton Bar. Here we get to know the famous pioneer Ernest Shakelton and his adventures. Afterwards we relish the last dinner of this common journey in one of the city restaurants
